On Wednesday, some of our Year 4/5 girls took part in the Gateshead Girls Football Tournament. They had a fantastic afternoon and displayed wonderful sportsmanship. Their hard work paid off and one of our teams secured bronze medals after coming 3rd out of all the teams that competed. Well done to all of them.

This week we have been learning about the 2 different types of trees. The children were excellent at identifying deciduous and evergreen trees in our school gardens and they were able to explain how they could identify the tree based on its leaves.

Year 2 children had a wonderful day at Beamish Museum where they got to experience life in a Victorian classroom which included standing to speak to answer a questions and addressing the teacher as Ma’am. The sun shone so they were able to enjoy their lunch outside in the grounds.

Last week, year 1 loved their day out at Northumberland Zoo. We had the opportunity to observe many animals and learnt about their diets. The children were able to share which animal group each animal belongs to, as well as if they are herbivores, omnivores or carnivores.

Year 6 were lucky enough to attend the Commonwealth Ceremony at Gateshead Civic Centre. Elizabeth read the commonwealth pledge beautifully then we were invited in to the council chambers with the Mayor of Gateshead. We asked her questions and learned about her job as Mayor of Gateshead.

Year 6 have enjoyed working on their frames for a motorised vehicle. We have safely used saws and enjoyed joining all of our components together. For our next step, we will use our knowledge of electrical circuits to attach a motor and switch element.

Year 2 have been working hard with our two artists Megan and Elizabeth over the last few weeks. The children completed their amazing ‘rolling moon’ artwork using clay and then decorating with paint. They were then painted and once they were baked in the oven were glazed.

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed investigating the different materials submerged into a tub of water. We used words including buoyant and submerge to describe what was happening to each object. We used our knowledge of materials and their properties to make sensible predictions.

Year 1 have been spending lots of time practising their sending and receiving skills. This week, we have been focusing on dribbling the ball, sending and stopping the ball. We are getting very good at using our bodies to change direction and using the inside of our foot to kick the ball.
