Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to our wonderful year 5 class.
This year will be learning about the amazing Ancient Egyptians, the fearsome Anglo-Saxons and North America, just to name a few.
We are also going to be visiting Holy Island for 3 days. There, we will be seeing and do many amazing things.
During year 5 we are lucky enough to go swimming every Monday, and every Tuesday we have fantastic PE lessons.
Our time in year 5 will be a fun filled journey.
Year 5 have the opportunity this half term to take part in some weekly dance workshops. Their first session looked at a street dance.
Year 5's topic for this term is the Anglo-Saxon's. The y took part in a role play session to investigate the laws and punishments of the Anglo-Saxon justice system.
Science in Year 5 has involved looking at the properties of a range of materials to see which one absorbed the most water.
We were delighted to be able to take some of our Y5 and Y6 children across the the Civic Centre to sing as part of the Citizenship ceremony that was taking place.
After their visit to the Angel of the North, animator Cheryl Jenkins, returned to year 5 to work with them to change their work into animation. The children have draw faces and a range of mouths and eyes and are using their to create a talking animation. [gallery...
This term the children from Y5 have been reading the book Goodnight Mister Tom. To complete their work on this topic they spent the day at Beamish Museum finding out what life would have been like for a an evacuee child. Despite the bitter cold weather the children...
The children in Year 5 have been reading the epic poem 'Beowulf'. They then acted out the poem in groups.
