This week in their history lesson the children from year 3 have been comparing ancient to modern day Olympics.

They learnt that some events, including the discus, running and wrestling have always been in the Olympics but other events such as chariot racing or the pankration have been replaced with modern day events including cycling and taekwondo.

Today our Olympic receive medals made from gold, silver and bronze but in the Ancient Olympics they were have received an Olympic wreath made from leaves from the olive trees that grew on Mount Olympia.

The children made their own wreaths and decided which event they would like to be a future champion in!
