On Friday we received a delivery we had been waiting all week for!

Five very tiny baby caterpillars! Over the next few weeks we are going to watch as they transform into beautiful butterflies that can be released into our outdoor area. We have enjoyed looking closely at the caterpillars and watching them eat. Already they have grown. “The caterpillars are getting more big!” said one of the children in our class today.

We have been looking carefully at our books about caterpillars and butterflies to try and find out a little more about them.

Here are some of the things we have noticed and said about our baby caterpillars.

“There’s special food to make them fat.”
“This is really special food. They’ll eat it for days and days and days and days! Then they make a cocoon and then they turn into a butterfly.”

“It curls up and stretches to move!”                                                                                                                                                                                                   “They look a bit like centipedes because they stretch out their legs.”

We are very excited to watch them grow and change over the next few weeks.
