On Monday 16th January, Year 6 went on a visit to Woodhorn Colliery. We did a variety of different activities and had a look around the museum. The conditions in which the miners worked were awful. It was squashed, dark, incredibly noisy and extremely dangerous.
We looked in the archives at numbers of people who were killed in the different pit disasters and the reasons for this.
On the afternoon we looked at pictures painted by some of the miners and then had a go ourselves. We painted pictures of a ‘Geordie Lamp’
It was an interesting day which we all really enjoyed.
